This nat gas drilling pad has just gone up: work started a few weeks ago. It's smack dab in the middle of farmland. Nearby, family homes are nestled in the few woodlots left in the valley.
The main crop is corn to feed livestock. Drying bins dot the countryside.
This demonstration has been planned by concerned citizens who hear about these drilling sites sprouting all along the St.Lawrence valley lowlands, looking for shale gas in the Utica geological formation.
The people you see in the pictures come from all over the province and are from all age groups: retirees, young families with their kids, family dogs, all were braving the cold wind and the first real snowfall of the year for this part of the province of Quebec. I figure we were almost 200.
