Friends of the Richelieu. A river. A passion.

"Tout cedit pays est fort uny, remply de forests, vignes & noyers. Aucuns Chrestiens n'estoient encores parvenus jusques en cedit lieu, que nous, qui eusmes assez de peine à monter le riviere à la rame. " Samuel de Champlain

"All this region is very level and full of forests, vines and butternut trees. No Christian has ever visited this land and we had all the misery of the world trying to paddle the river upstream." Samuel de Champlain

Powdery pondering

For the past few snowy cold days, the wind has been coming in from the S-E then W, meaning that the snow accumulation can be measured in inches rather than in feet.

Yesterday and today, the wind has been quite brutal, but thankfully, once I shoveled the driveway, it stays that way, because the wind is coming from the Chambly Basin, crossing the Richelieu River, and funnelling down the driveway like a crazy banshee. No snow flake stays put here, but piles up BEHIND the car, meaning that if I ever need to leave in a hurry, all I have to do is get the snow off the car, or what is left of it, and go.

The 2 bird feeders need regular fill-ups, and that means next time I go out for groceries, a big bag of sunflower seeds will have to be bought. Word is getting around, or my neighbors have stopped filling up theirs, because I'm seeing more and more birds, more and more different species. That keeps the cats busy, that with all those snow devils popping up all around the house, sliding down the roof, turning corners to disappear in the garden.
